The number of people infected with coronavirus increases every day. Many countries are in lockdown to prevent the virus from spreading.

There are many things to do during quarantine like cooking, learning a new language, read books, etc. However,  New Yorkers have found a new tactic to reduce stress. They are getting dogs amid the coronavirus pandemic as a way to deal with anxiety, stress, and loneliness.

Jed Garfield, head of the real-estate firm Leslie J. Garfield, said that he was feeling really stressed and anxious, so he decided to get a dog. Once he picked up the 5-month-old Goldendoodle, it was one of Garfield’s best decisions. The dog was named Baxter, but Garfield decided to call him Doggie.

Dogs can be a great distraction of the current events and they can reduce your stress. Once you get a dog, you will understand why most people own dogs.

Gian Manawis, who also works in Garfield’s office, and her husband decided to pick up a dog named Thurman. The couple can’t be in the office right now, so they spend more time training the dog, which is a great way to reduce stress.

According to Matt Bershadker, president of the ASPCA, this phenomenon is not surprising. Animals can provide comfort and companionship during a crisis like this coronavirus pandemic.

The number of animals in foster care through the ASPCA’s New York City and Los Angeles programs has increased by 70 percent compared to last year.

Even celebrities are joining the program. Camila Morrone, Leonardo DiCaprio’s girlfriend is among those people who are fostering a dog during the quarantine.

A mom from Upper West Side said that her children always wanted a dog and now, their wish has been finally fulfilled. She said fostering a dog is a great idea as a distraction during this hard time.

Dogs can be a source of happiness. If you don’t want to commit to adoption, fostering can be a great idea. After all, the dog will help you and you will help the dog who needs love and attention.
