A koala saved from the fires that ravaged through Adelaide Hills was filmed while being released back into the wild. He was the last koala from Adelaide to survive.

But when the koala named Isaac saw his home that was destroyed by the wildfires, he stopped to wonder where he was because of the devastation. He also wondered where all his friends and family had gone – being the only koala to survive.

In the video, the koala is confused by the lack of trees, burnt leaves, and scorched hills that used to be his home. The area didn’t look or smell like his home anymore.

At the start of the video, the koala handler opened up Isaac’s carrier and gave him a pat as a way to say goodbye before the koala climbed up a gum tree.

Once he climbed the tree, the koala saw the surrounding area, which was now made up of ashes and minimal trees.

Eventually, Isaac climbed up on the gum tree in order to settle on a comfortable branch.

Even though there is not much left, there still is enough habitat for one koala in the burnt area.

Koalas usually don’t drink water because they mainly eat Eucalyptus leaves, which have high water content.

But, there aren’t many leaves in Isaac’s home, so he will receive water from the property owners and neighbours.

According to reports, Isaac is one of more than 80 successfully rehabilitated koalas that have been released back in the wild.

The Adelaide Hills are now a fire-free zone. However, more than a billionĀ  animals have died during the most recent wildfire season. Some of the species are even on the verge of extinction!
