A dog was hit by a car on a busy highway. Fortunately, a Florida officer stopped the traffic on the highway to save the dog. After saving the dog, the officer was hailed as a hero.

Joseph Puglia works as an officer at the Pinellas Park Police Department. On September 19, he was driving on Interstate 275.  When he witnessed a horrible car accident on the road, he immediately stopped. Although he feared that the dog may be dead, he stopped, got out of the car, and prepared for the worst.

Puglia noticed the dog was actually showing signs of life, so he did what he had to do. He managed to get the dog off the highway, wrap it in a blanket and transported it to a nearby veterinarian. Thankfully, the moment that was caught on his dashcam video.

After the medical examination, the vet is positive that the dog will make a full recovery. It’s amazing how he survived the hit and suffered just a few cuts and bruises.

Puglia decided to give the dog the nickname “Lucky,” which he says it applies because he is a really lucky dog.

Unfortunately, the dog didn’t have a microchip or a tag, so his owner hasn’t been located yet. Anyone who has information regarding the dog or his owner should contact Pinellas County Animal Services at 727-582-2600.

Nobody came to search for the dog, so a city employee named Shannon Coughlin decided to adopt him. Her first business task was to name the dog, so she decided to name him Rosco.

Fortunately, there are still kind people around the world. This accident just proves the dedication and compassion that our officers have for our furry friends. Rosco has finally made a full recovery and is happy living with his new owner in a loving home.
