An aging dog was found in a plastic bag on the side of the road in Listowel, Ontario last month.

A kind citizen found the dog and brought it in to a local shelter on July 30. The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth (HSKWPS) said that the dog was named Mildred.

The agency gave the dog a physical which showed that the poor animal was suffering from severely overgrown toenails, dental disease, chronic vaginal prolapse, multiple mammary tumors, and arthritis.

Veterinary director Dr. Laurel Gale released a statement in which she confirmed that Mildred has a long road to recovery. The dog still needs several surgeries to improve her condition.

Dr. Gale added that a board-certified veterinary surgeon evaluated Mildred and diagnosed with chronic vaginal hyperplasia. Fortunately, a specialized surgeon will remove it and repair it next week.

According to the HSKWPS, the case has been reported to Provincial Animal Welfare Services. An investigation has been launched.

The Humane Society has started an online campaign named “Mildred Needs Your Help” in order to raise money for the surgeries and rehabilitation that she needs. It’s believed that the dog is around 12 years old. We wish this dog a fast recovery. She deserves a second chance at life.

The society’s goal was set at $5,000, but just 12 hours after the campaign was launched, the Humane Society already raised more than $6,000. The remaining funds will be used for other animals are in need for treatment.

Hopefully, this investigation will find the person who put Mildred in a plastic bag. If you have some useful information, please contact the Humane Society.
