There are many abandoned dogs around the world. Sadly, they end up on the streets when their owners don’t want them anymore. Lilica is one of those dogs. She was abandoned near a landfill in one of the poorest suburbs in São Paulo, Brazil.
The dog somehow arrived in front of the house of the teacher Lucia Helena de Souza. When the woman saw the dog, she offered her food. It seemed that Lilica really enjoyed her meal because she kept returning almost every night.
Soon, a routine was established between the teacher and the dog. Lucia even started cooking an extra portion just for Lilica. They usually met at 9 p.m. to exchange food and hugs.
But, something changed in Lilica’s behavior. Although she was hungry, she didn’t eat. Instead, she just took the food container and went away. So, the teacher started wrapping the food in a plastic bag.

Lucia got really curious, so she decided to follow the dog one day. The teacher didn’t expect to see Lilica sharing her food with her whole family. This is so heartwarming!
The dog adopted this habit to feed her puppies. Once her puppies grew up, she was still bringing food but to the other animals in the area. Lilica worked very hard and made sure to return every night with food.
Once people heard about Lilica’s story, they were really touched. In fact, it reminds us that animals sometimes show more solidarity that many humans.
Lilica and Lucia deserve a round of applause. Both of them have big hearts!
