Meet Tombi, the ginger cat that somehow ended up in a public elementary school in Izmir, Turkey. He thinks that the school is his new home and all of the students are his friends. I guess cats can make a decision to live wherever they want.

Last month, Tombi went to the school’s garden. It seemed that he really liked it because he kept coming back. Strays are usually scared of people and ran away, but not Tombi. He is a friendly cat who loves to seek attention from the students.

It’s unknown where Tombi came from, but he managed to find the place where he actually belongs. After a few weeks wandering around in the school’s garden, he decided to go inside the school and become a student. When he went into the third-grade classroom, Özlem Pınar Ivaşcu, the teacher, was surprised because he didn’t expect a non-human student.

Although cats can be a distraction, Tombi has the opposite effect on the students. The cat made the students calmer and more focused in class. Ivaşcu said that the students love taking care of Tombi, which is good for them.

But, not all the parents were thrilled when they found that a stray cat is hanging around the school. One parent complained that Tombi is a health risk, so the cat had to leave. But, Tombi’s story doesn’t end here.

The teacher took Tombi to the vet clinic, where the cat received a vaccination. Afterward,  Ivaşcu even found him a new home. But, Tombi wasn’t happy in his new home and couldn’t get used to the other cat living there.

Tombi didn’t eat anything for three days as a sign of protest. When İvaşcu her, she and her husband decided to take Tombi back and kept him in their house.

The students missed the feline so much, they even made drawings for him. It was obvious that Tombi missed his friends, too.

So, İvaşcu shared Tombi’s story on Facebook. When people heard about it, they did everything they can so Tombi can return to the school and they succeeded.

Thanks to the support of the people, Tombi returned to the classroom. The students were excited to have him back and he was very happy to be with friends again.
