The brutality and outburst of humans towards animals are, unfortunately, an increasingly common occurrence. Profit is one of the main reasons.  This is one of those cases. Gaza Strip Zoo declaws a young lioness so that people can ‘play’ with her. Continue reading for more details.

The Gaza Strip Zoo seeks to attract visitors by offering them the opportunity to play with a lioness – according to World Heritage Species.

The vets declawed the lioness to keep her from tearing someone apart but left her with all her teeth.

The lioness is 14 months old and her name is Falestine. The vets cut her claws to keep her from tearing someone apart but left her with all her teeth.

“I try to reduce her aggressiveness to be friendly to visitors,” says Rafah Zoo owner, 53-year-old Muhammad Juma.

Fayez al-Hadad, a veterinarian who operated Falestine two weeks ago, claims it is not cruelty to the animal.

“Her claws were cut off so they wouldn’t grow too fast and children and visitors could play with her,” he said. “The lioness does not lose her character.”

But the Paw Project, an organization that rehabilitates big cats, claims it is inhuman mutilation.

The zoo owner believed it would increase the number of visitors in such a cruel way.

The small but visited Zoo in Rafah currently has five lions. The garden was destroyed in an Israeli army attack on the Gaza Strip in 2004 but was rebuilt and reopened by Juma two years ago.

Until the lioness is completely “domesticated,” visitors stay away, behind a low fence.

A group of children with a smile from ear to ear, watched Falestina play with zookeepers last week. For the time being, until the lioness is completely “domesticated,” visitors stay away, behind a low fence.

The declawed lioness participated in the game but occasionally looked confused, trying to sharpen her non-existent claws against a nearby tree.

Hadad warned that the claws would grow back within six months.

“The lioness will not lose its attacking instincts,” he said.

Four newborn lion cubs were carelessly left to freeze to death, while over 49 others are trapped in pitiful enclosures.

A large number of people think that cutting off the claws of the lion is not a way to increase the zoo’s popularity.

Two million Palestinians live in the Gaza Strip in a small area. The area has been under blockade by Israel and Egypt for more than a decade because the Hamas terrorist group is in power in the territory.

There are several smaller zoos in the area, in quite poor conditions.
