Can you imagine dogs dressed in protective gear going to work?
Тhis is a very interesting story. As the birds return to their places, the dogs need to be redirected to the new ones. This will look like they have to play with tennis balls, but nothing scary, they’ll just have fun and no one will be hurt.

Here is the story:

To relocate the colony of seabirds whose nesting site stood in the way of the $4 billion Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel increasing project. Virginia officials came up with a suggestion to relocate them to freshly created homes nearby.

To pull thousands of birds to the selected sites- workers set up decoys, put down sand, and installed a sound system performing bird calls.

But all of these settings weren’t enough. The plan was to find an animal-friendly way to discourage the birds from coming back to their former spot while the construction project is being implemented.

Now the program overseers need to find a package of several border collies that will divert birds to their new places.

A group of twenty collies patrolled around the clock by the end of February on the bridge-tunnel which is turning into a construction staging area. The dogs are working in shifts and they are carrying with protective equipment to ready them safe from the elements, while performing their task.

They’ll be on the island all summer because they have the main role in pushing the birds to the new nesting sites, until the end of the migratory season.

Border collies are fascinating animals that help make the process easier and they have a particular set of skills when it comes to convincing other animals to head in a different direction.

Because the project to extend the route through the water could take five years, the dogs could return to another mission during future migrations.
