It’s getting harder to purchase a product these days that isn’t made of plastic or packaged in it. However, have you ever wondered what happens after you throw it away? Plastic waste is causing a major problem for our planet.

Plastic pollution is the largest environmental threat facing humans and animals around the world. Many companies use non-biodegradable plastic which usually ends up in our oceans or landfills. It takes many years for it to decompose. Just a small amount of plastic gets recycled.

Although there are companies that are developing biodegradable options, there is still so much plastic in rivers, seas, and oceans. Plastic can even contribute to health problems in humans and animals.

One artist and sculptor creator named Janardhan Havanje decided to do something for a greener future. He created a fish sculpture named Goby in order to raise awareness about plastic pollution. It’s a see-through structure with a sign “Goby loves plastic, please feed him!” What a fun way to promote recycling!

Goby is 10ft tall and is located on Malpe Beach, near Udupi on the Arabian Sea in Karnataka. It cost Havanje around $646 to make the sculpture with iron rods. He gets so full and he has to be emptied during the night, so he can be “fed” again the next day.

It appears that Goby the Fish was inspired by “Yoshi the Fish” which is located in India, or other plastic-eating fish somewhere else. Either way, the concept inspired him to replicate their very own “Goby the Fish” and hopefully will inspire many more people to do the same.

According to experts, there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish by 2050. If you care about the environment and the animals, please pick up your litter! Every beach deserves to be plastic-free.
