Dogs are known rescuers when their fellow humans are in distress, but as it turns out, there’s another pet in town that can help just as well!

When an 83-year old woman fell down a ravine in Cornwall, England, her loyal feline friend was quick to jump to the rescue! The black cat called Piran, meowed relentlessly over the spot where the woman had fallen in order to attract someone’s attention. Talk about a smart cat! And her meowing paid off when a fellow neighbor heard the persistent meowing and decided to check it out. Together with a search crew they helped the old woman and called the cat a hero!

“Without the cat waiting at the gate to that field, it could have been hours later that I or anyone else would have checked there,” said the neighbor, Tamar Longmuir.

This definitely defies the myth that black cats bring bad luck – Piran is proof that sometimes they can bring search crews and save your life!

According to the police,  the woman survived a 70-foot fall down a steep ravine in the corner of a cornfield near her home. Her cat’s meowing resulted in saving her life and bringing her to a hospital in a safe condition.
