Hard times will always reveal who your actual friends are. This applies to humans and animals.
When Jake, a 2-year-old Golden Retriever, lost his eyesight, his roommate Addie was by his side and helped him get used to the new life.
In the last few years, Addie proved that she is a loyal guide and companion. She never leaves his side and the pair is inseparable. Jake and Addie are the cutest best friends on the Internet right now!
Jake’s problem started as soon as the turned 2. His eyes stopped producing tears. Then, Kim, his owner, took him to the vet. Although he tried every medication recommended and received multiple surgeries, his eyes only got deteriorated.

The vet told Kim to either remove Jake’s eyes or put him to sleep. She taught both options were cruel, specifically for a dog who has already suffered.
Nonetheless, she was contacted by numerous owners of blind dogs. They encouraged her that even though dogs lose their vision, they still have a chance to live normal lives.
According to vets, sight is number 3 on the dog’s list of senses. Actually, smell and hearing are more important to dogs than sight.
So, Kim made up her mind and scheduled a vet appointment to remove Jake’s eyes. Right after the surgery, Jake was wagging his tail. It appears that his days of suffering were behind him and he was finally happy, even though he can’t see.
Jake needed some time to adjust to his new life. Although he may bump in furniture or other things now and then, he can easily navigate through the house and his neighborhood, which is quite impressive for a blind dog.
