Dogs are loyal and loving pets, thus the saying “dogs are man’s best friend”. So, why would anyone ever want to hurt or eat them?

Although people have stopped eating cat and dog meat, it’s still shocking that in some countries, including China, Nigeria, Vietnam, and Indonesia, it’s legal to eat dog meat. Most of the dogs are stolen from their owners or abused before they are slaughtered for food.

The latest deadly epidemic that affected the world is the coronavirus outbreak. According to scientists, the virus started at a food market in Wuhan, China, where they sell live animals.

Now, the Chinese government wants to make changes in order to decrease the number of sick people. Just like numerous cities around the world, Shenzhen, China is determined to keep its citizens safe from the deadly coronavirus. The best solution for this problem is to put an end to the city’s wildlife meat trade.

On Monday, China’s National People’s Congress proposed new legislation that will ban the sale and consumption of animals, including dogs, cats, snakes, and frogs. However, other meats like pork, chicken, and beef will continue to be sold at the markets.

This law is not just a response to the outbreak, but it’s also proposed to protect and recognize dogs and cats as household pets.

Many developed countries have banned the consumption of wild animals. It’s actually a universal requirement of modern civilization.

If people continue to eat animals from the protected list will have to pay a fine of 20,000 yuan which is equal to $3,000 USD. However, those who will sell the meat will pay a higher fine.

The law is still not passed and only applies to one city. However, animal lovers believe that this could be the start of a widespread movement against dog and cat meat and other cities will join.

It’s sad that it took a virus outbreak to end the sale of dog and cat meat, but we believe that this will end this horrible trade forever.
