Getting a pet is not an easy decision. Pets are loyal companions who are always there for us. They can cheer us up and comfort when we need it the most.

However, many people don’t really understand what it takes to have a pet and sometimes they abandon them in the worst ways. The main reasons why people abandon their pets because of relocation, loss of interest, or financial problems. Usually, when people want to get rid of their pets, they abandon them in woods or beside a road where there aren’t many vehicles.

The owner of Chunk the Pit Bull abandoned her when she was just 3 months old. He decided that the best way to do that is to tie the dog to a tree in Sacramento on a rainy day.

When firefighter Mike Thawley was on his way to do his job, he noticed the pit bull lying lifeless near the tree. First, Mike went to complete his job and then returned to check on the dog.

Although when Mike found Chunk she was alive, she has in bad condition. Before her owner abandoned her, he abused her and didn’t really take care of her. Her hairless skin was suffering from mange. Then, the kind firefighter took Chunk back to the station and even gave her a warm bath. Afterward, he took her to a local animal shelter called “Front Street Animal Shelter”, so she can make a full recovery.

Although Mike left the dog in better hands, he couldn’t get the poor dog out of his mind. So, he went back the next day to check on the Chunk. When the dog saw Mike, she jumped off the kennel to greet him. She instantly recognized her rescuer and gave him numerous sweet kisses!

After Mike’s wife, Carla, and his 3 daughters found out about Chunk, they wanted to adopt the dog. But, the family had to wait for 4 months so Chunk can fully recover before taking her home.

Although Chunk’s story started sadly, she finally received her happy ending she deserves.
