As kids, everyone loves going to the circus. However, many people stop going to the circus after finding out how animals are treated there. Circus animals spend their lives trapped in cages in an unnatural and stressful environment. Fortunately, many communities don’t allow the use of animals in circuses anymore. After all, wild animals don’t belong in circuses!
Peru is one of the countries that have banned using wild animals in a circus. But, not everyone respects the law. There are many circuses that continue to keep wild animals chained in cages. These animals are usually kept for entertainment in the worst conditions.
There was a mountain lion named Mufasa that was a part of a circus for over 20 years. Thanks to the Animal Defenders International group (ADI), he was finally freed. Mufasa is just one of the many circus animals that the group has rescued.

Mufasa spent his life in the circus and was forced to entertain the circus audience. He was also forced to travel around the country chained to a truck. However, thanks to the ADI, Mufasa was finally saved from his horrible state of captivity.
Mufasa spent his life in chains, so he couldn’t be released in the wild. Instead, he was taken to a sanctuary into the Peruvian forest, where he had an enclosure built especially for him.
Finally, Mufasa enjoyed his freedom. Kind people took care of him in the most natural habitat.
Sadly, Mufasa died in December 2015 and he didn’t have much time to experience his freedom. Mufasa spent his life chained to a bed of a pick-up truck. As a result, his health was damaged and he had kidney failure and other age-related issues.
Although Mufasa didn’t enjoy his freedom for very long, at least ADI gave him the chance to experience it.
