A giant brown bear became famous after taking a relaxing dip in a spa’s pool.
The bear was named Swimmy and was caught on camera enjoying not one, but few night swimming sessions in a resort near Sopot, in Bulgaria’s Stara Planina mountains.
The video was shared on social media and the bear immediately went viral. After all, it’s a rare sight to see a bear in a swimming pool.
First, the bear unashamedly walked under the chain in order to get into the resort. Then, he walked toward the swimming pools. At first, he was thinking about which swimming pool to enter.

After a moment of hesitation, the bear jumped into the pool and started swimming. Hey, we don’t judge. Every once and a while, even bears need to relax!
The owners of the resort found out the late-night dipping after checking their security camera footage. They saw a giant bear swimming in the pool behind a cafe. The bear didn’t realize there was a glass door, so he bumped his nose.
Three friends joined Swimmy in his relaxing night swimming session. All of them were happily thrashing around in the pool together. One of the bears even tried to open the door of the cafe with his claws. Fortunately, the pool was closed for the season.
After the video was shared on social media, Bulgarian forestry officials contacted the hotel and told them the bear needs to be put down. However, the story doesn’t end here.
The owners started a petition in order to save the bear and his friends. Over 6,000 signed the petition urging officials to save Swimmy. The owners even offered to pay for the bear’s relocation.
Let’s hope that officials will change their minds and Swimmy will be relocated, instead of put down.
