Sunny days are meant to be spent outside, preferably at the beach relaxing in the sunshine.
A family from Quebec decided to spend a holiday on the shores of the St. Lawrence River in Canada. While they were at the beach, the saw something unusual.
The children were enjoying their day at the beach when they saw a creature near the shore. When they approached the creature, they realized that it was a baby beluga whale and it wasn’t having her best day. It appeared that the baby lost her mother, so it ended up on the sand. The newborn still had her umbilical cord attached, which meant that she was probably just a few hours old.
When the kids saw it, they decided to help the baby whale get back in the water. They dug a hole so the newborn could hydrate, while they were waiting for help to arrive.

One of the boys, Nicholas Milliard, found the baby whale together with his younger brothers. They went back and forth with a bucket of water.
When the researchers from the Group for Research and Education on Marine Mammals (GREMM) arrived at the scene, they immediately helped with the rescue mission. They managed to bring the baby back to the water and introduced her to a few Beluga whales so she could find her mother or another lactating whale.
The destiny of the baby whale remains unknown. Before the researchers left, they managed to take a skin sample of the baby whale so they can track her in the future. Although it would be difficult for the baby to survive, she still deserves a chance at life in her natural habitat.
Sadly, it’s impossible to find the baby’s mother. Fortunately, Beluga whales are social so the baby might have been adopted by another whale.
