A woman from Slidell recently posted on Facebook that her ex-boyfriend choked her 3-year-old Doberman. It didn’t take much time for her post to go viral. Fortunately, the Slidell Police arrested the man and returned the dog to the right owner – Rachelle Fassy.

The police shared the news about the arrest on the department’s Facebook page this Tuesday. Thanks to the video, the police managed to obtain an arrest warrant for Shane Mitchell for cruelty to animals. The police also got a court order and returned the dog to the owner.

Fassy said that the unfortunate incident happened on the morning of Mother’s Day. She just ended the bad relationship with Mitchell and moved into a new place. Then, Mitchell showed up at her new house.

The man was threatening her and he even grabbed the dog’s leash. He didn’t want to give the dog back to Fassy. Then, the incident was caught on Fassy’s doorbell camera. Mitchell was ringing the doorbell, and Fassy lied to him that she already called the cops.

Mitchell didn’t care at all, and then he started pulling up the dog’s leash, which led to choking the animal. When Fassy saw that her dog was choking, she screamed and begged him to stop.

Although Mitchell told her that he would bring the dog back, that didn’t happen. It appears that he was holding the dog for ransom because Fassy didn’t want to be with him anymore. She called the police later the same day.

The Slidell Police said they started looking for Mitchell this Monday morning. They believed he was in the Baton Rouge area or in an apartment in Slidell.

Several undercover detectives were working on this case and managed to find Mitchell at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. He was found in an apartment on Oak Harbor Boulevard, and he was immediately taken into custody without any incidents.

Fassy was so thankful after the police found her dog so quickly. Although she was frustrated and impatient at first, she knows that the police had to follow legal channels.

The Slidell Police were shocked by the video. Chief Randy Fandal even wondered how can someone hurt a defenseless animal on purpose.

Fortunately, there was happy ending for both the owner and her dog.
