Meet Willie Ortez, the 76-year-old man from Hartford, Connecticut who has a big heart. For the last 22 years, the kind man has been feeding stray cats every day.

He collects scrap metal and exchanges it for money. He’s been even collecting in bad weather while it was raining or snowing. Then, he buys cat food and supplies.

He doesn’t just feed the homeless kitties, he also pays for their spaying and neutering. He even takes really good care of sick and injured cats. Ortez has a hard job, but it makes him really happy.

Feeding stray cats became his life mission after Ortez saw a starving kitten denying food. He said that the kitten really needed his help and he was determined to do something.

Every morning Ortez goes out to find scrap metal and then he sells it. He feeds the cats at night mostly with cat food and sardines. He also checks on their health. However, thanks to their diet, they are really healthy.

Fortunately, when one woman heard about Willie’s mission, she wanted to help him take care of the cats. Last year, Kathleen Schlentz set up a GoFundMe campaign to help him buy cat food and pay for the vet’s expenses. The fundraiser is still ongoing and people can still donate to the campaign.

Kathleen pointed out that Willie feeds 68 cats every night for 22 years. He makes sure they live good lives.

Even though the 76-year-old man is doing a good deed, there are people who don’t understand his cause and usually ask him why he does it. He pointed out that animals need to eat every day, just like people do.

We can all agree, even cats, that the world needs more people like Ortez. Not only he helps the cats, but he also helps society by preventing diseases and unwanted litters.
