A man from Oregon started playing the saxophone several months ago. He doesn’t always get a chance to play his saxophone for an audience. However, that changed when he and his wife got an idea.

Richard Herrmann and his wife run every day. They have spotted a herd of cows near a field in Dayton a few times. The last time they went out on a run together, they came up with the best idea – for Richard to play his saxophone in front of the cows.

“My wife and I run together past the field occasionally,” Herrmann said.“The cows always seem curious. I asked my wife, ‘I wonder if they would come if I played the saxophone?’ She supported her husband’s decision.

There are many videos online of people who play music for animals. This inspired Herrmann to give it a try. He and his wife drove over to the field and got out of the car. Herrmann quickly got into position and started playing his saxophone.

Richard turned to the camera as his wife started recording. He was a little bit nervous because it was his first audition for a live audience. “Let’s see how it goes,” he said.

Herrmann played “Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder on his saxophone — and at the moment when he started playing, a few cows in the field showed up – they became the best audience ever.

“They were walking one direction and when I started to play, you could see them freeze for a few seconds and then started walking over to the fence where I was,” Herrmann said.

It wasn’t long before dozens of cows rushed to the fence to get as close to the music as possible. It was like they were at a rock concert.

After playing “Isn’t She Lovely”, Herrmann also played “Careless Whisper” by George Michael and “Tequila” by The Champs. It looked like the cows had a great time and the whole thing went so much better than Hermann could have ever imagined.

The cows really enjoyed the music, unlike Herrmann’s dog – Piper. Ever since Richard started playing the saxophone, the 3-year-old yellow Labrador retriever barked and even covered his ears.

When Herrmann’s daughter, Erinn, saw the videos, she decided to share them on Twitter. The videos quickly went viral and everyone fell in love with the dad who played his saxophone for the cows. He received more than 1 million views!

This is an example that music can really bring people and animals together. So, if you find yourself near a field with cows or other animals, feel free to put on a show for them. You never know what might happen!
