When Melissa Janelle Torrezz was getting ready to leave her home in Mission, Texas, she saw something very disturbing. Her 59-year-old neighbor, Mario Cardona, was riding his motorized scooter on the street and he was dragging G2, his 10-month-old German Sheperd puppy.
When people see something disturbing like this, they usually tend to freeze. However, not many of them will take action. Fortunately, Torrez was different. She immediately took her phone out and started recording the horrible incident.
Torrez admitted that she was really upset. Some people told her that she should’ve cut the dog’s leash while others said she should have just taken the dog with her.
Although G2 was enduring through a really traumatic event, Torrez thought of her while doing the necessary thing. If she didn’t videotape the incident, the dog might have still been with his horrible owner.
In the video, you can hear that Torrez is very emotional while shouting to Cardona that she will call the cops. It appears that he’s not really bothered by what Torrez said.

This is not where the story ends. Torrez handed over the disturbing video to the Mission Police Department and even uploaded it on Facebook. When the police department watched the video, they supported Torrez’s quick decision to pull out her phone and record the horrible incident. Sometimes, it’s really hard to prove animal cruelty and abuse.
However, Cardona was arrested in less than 24 hours and he was charged with animal cruelty. As it turned out, he had a lengthy criminal record.
Fortunately, the Municipal Court Judge, Horacio Pena Jr., ruled that G2 will not return to his former home. However, Cardona’s wife Maria said her husband was suffering from PTSD and he wasn’t in the right state of mind. She also pointed out that that G2 was her dog and she wanted her back.
However, Cardona’s medical condition got him out of jail but he had to pay a $10,000 bond. Now G2 is healing from the traumatic incident. Father Roy Snipes of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church offered his home to the puppy. Thanks to Torrez, the dog was saved from abuse and now lives in a loving home.
Torrez’s actions inspired Mission officials to found Pawsible, a group that rescues abused pups and teaches children how to take proper care of their pets.
