Poachers are hunters who illegally capture or hunt wild animals. Recently, a group of three illegal hunters broke into a reserve in South Africa with one goal –  to slaughter a herd of rhinos. However, a pride of lions came across their path. The lions attacked the poachers and afterward, they ate them.

It is believed that at least three hunters were killed by the predators. Only one head was discovered at the Sibuya Game Reserve near Kenton-on-Sea, together with other body parts.

When employees saw the bloody scene, they immediately called a helicopter to search the area for other poachers. However, no other poachers were found, so the area was safe. Then, the lions were tranquilized, so the police and employees could go inside and take the remains of the poachers.

Nick Fox, the owner of the reserve, said they found three pairs of shoes which means the lions ate at least three poachers. However, the option that there were more is not excluded.

Fox thinks the poachers came for the rhinos because they also found hunting rifles and axes. Instead of hunting rhinos, the poachers became a meal. Although it’s sad that at least three lives were lost, this incident should be a warning to other poachers.

Sadly, this is not the first time poachers got into the reserve. In 2016, they managed to kill three rhinos just so they could cut off their horns. This year, poachers shot 9 rhinos with a high-caliber hunting rifle and killed them.
