Usually, bus drivers pay attention just to the road ahead of them. However, Mike Thomas is one of the rare bus drivers who pay attention to his surroundings as well.
Mike works for Tri-met in Portland, Oregon. One day, when he was driving on his route, he saw a man walking a dog in the middle of the street. But, it was strange that the man was leading the dog by his collar, instead of a leash.

The bus driver decided to stop the bus. Then, he approached the man and the dog in order to make sure everything was alright. Usually, bus drivers have to stop at a designated bus stop, but Mike made an exception and let them get on the bus.
Mike noticed that the dog was anxious, as the so-called owner attempted to coax the dog on the bus. The bus driver was surprised that the so-called owner didn’t know “his” dog’s name.
Instead of doing something right away, Mike paid attention to the interaction between the man and “his” dog. Then, the man sat down to a woman and he even offered his dog to her. Fortunately, Mike witnessed the whole situation and was ready to react if needed.
When the man wanted to exit the bus, Mike grabbed the dog by the collar and let the so-called owner the dog will not be going anywhere. After the man exited the bus, Mike called the police and told them about the entire situation.
When the police arrived, they picked up the dog. After a little bit of research, they found the real owner of the dog, whose name is Cooper.
Finally, Cooper was reunited with his real owner Jane Murphy. She was so happy that her dog returned home safely.
Thanks to Mike, a dog and his owner were reunited.
