It’s uncommon to see animals from different species to hang out with each other. However, interspecies friendship exists.

Take Rudy the duck and Barclay the dog for example. They really love each other and enjoy spending time together now. But, that wasn’t always the case. After their owner Pam found out that ducks can reduce her anxiety and help her with PTSD, she decided to bring ducks home. At first, Barclay wasn’t happy. He was actually scared and for 3 years, he just looked the ducks from far away.

One day, Barclay decided to approach the ducks and Rudy fell in love with him. They started playing with each other. The ducks love climbing on Barclay and he doesn’t mind it. The dog even goes to the coop to greet his new friends every morning.

Did you know?

Ducks are wild animals but have been domesticated as pets and farm animals over 500 years ago. They are related to swans and geese.

Duck’s behavior is different from other farm animals. It’s important to understand their behavior before having them as pets. Most ducks don’t like to be picked up. However, there are some ducks who wouldn’t mind being lifted up.

Ducks keep themselves clean by preening. When ducks preen themselves, they remove parasites and scales which are covering their newly sprouting feathers.

Ducks aren’t really indoor animals. Although large domestic ducks don’t fly, they still like to be outdoors and have access to water and grassy areas.
