Officials decided to euthanize a young mountain lion after the animal was found injured the day before near Rexburg, Idaho.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game released a statement in which they noted that officers found the young injured male lion near the city of Rexburg on Saturday.

According to the department, several Rexburg citizens said that they have been seeing the mountain lion in the last few weeks. The animal has been crossing yards and fields.

Recently, a backyard trail camera captured the injured animal on the west side of town.

On Saturday evening, few citizens saw that the mountain lion was laying along the road next to some willows. They immediately called local law enforcement.

Madison County Deputies and Fish and Game immediately arrived at the scene along. They also asked some local people with their hunting dogs to help them in the capture of the mountain lion.

Thanks to the dogs, the mountain lion was captured in no time. Wildlife officials immediately tranquilized him. They noticed that the poor animal had an injury on his right flank. So, he was given antibiotics and was observed during the night.

Wildlife Manager Curtis Hendricks expressed his gratitude towards John and Mike. Both of them quickly responded and brought their hunting dogs to the scene. Thanks to them, the entire mission went very smoothly.

Unfortunately, the Fish and Game officials noticed that the injury was too severe. Therefore, they decided to euthanize the animal the next day.
