From a very young age, we are taught that mice are one of cats’ favorite food. However, cartoons like Tom and Jerry have taught us that sometimes, cats and mice like to tease each other in a catch-me-if-you-can game.

While indoor cats don’t need to eat mice to survive, their hunting instinct is triggered every time the feline sees the infamous house rodent. But, that doesn’t’ necessarily mean that the cat will just kill the mouse. Usually they catch them and play with them until the cat gets bored.

That’s somewhat what happened in the home of Benjamín Sagredo from Punta Arenas, Chile. When his cat came across a mouse, it just let the rodent to dink from its water bowl, and Benjamin managed to capture the funny moment on video.

The name of the friendly cat is Simon, and he quickly went viral.

His owner, Benjamin, started hearing strange sounds coming from the kitchen, but didn’t think much of it. Later, it turned out that the weird noises were coming from the mouse! Benjamin thought that Simon would just take care of it, but that wasn’t the case.

“I decided to record it. I thought no one would believe me,” said Benjamin for The Dodo.

While Benjamin was ordering Simon to catch the mouse, the cat decided to make friends!

Simon grew up with two dogs, border collies, and according to his owner, he’s more like a dog than like a cat.

Benjamin also revealed that he got used to the little mouse and even gave him a name – Chefcito! It means “little chef” in Spanish.

“He’s been back several times. We love that Simon accepts him. He’s a very affectionate and sociable cat. If Chefcito keeps coming, we’re going to have to adopt him,” Benjamin told The Dodo.
