Fires have been raging across Australia since September. The situation has been receiving more and more international attention for all the right reasons. Now, organizations from all over the world are uniting together to help victims and starving wildlife population devastated by the wildfires.

Experts have estimated that at least one billion animals are dead, as a result of the ongoing wildfires. Those animals who have survived are at risk of death due to hunger and injuries.

The Wildlife Service and the NSW National Parks declared “Operation Rock Wallaby” in order to save the animals. During the operation, aircraft were sent to feed numerous starving animals that fell victims to the bushfires.

The government of New South Wales government has been dropping thousands of kilograms of carrots and sweet potato from above in order to feed the starving wildlife population and give them a chance of survival, especially the small-eared rock-wallabies.

The main focus of the park’s service is to support the wallabies. Their number has been dramatically decreased. More than 2,200kg of vegetables have been dropped for the animals to have something to eat.

The New South Wales Environment Minister, Matt Kean, said that although numerous animals have survived through the fires, they are now facing other challenges – food crisis. The wallabies have been facing many struggles even before the wildfires. He also said that they are making efforts to check on the animals with cameras.

Charity groups are currently relying on donations to fill planes with food and lease them in fire-affected areas across the country. It’s hard to transport food supplies in some areas thanks to smokey conditions. However, when the sky is clear, they will manage to complete another drop.
