Keeping chained dogs is one form of animal neglect. Poor dogs are kept with heavy chains for hours, sometimes even without food, water, or a bed.

A woman recently saw several dogs chained up outside a property in New Mexico. Instead of doing nothing, she decided to call rescuers who immediately went there and brought the dogs to safety.

One of the rescued dogs was named Violet. She had a thick metal chain around her neck which stained her white fur. According to her rescuers, she probably was chained up her entire life.

Violet was 2 years old when NMDOG, a charity who rescue chained dogs, took her from the property in Miguel County, New Mexico.

It’s illegal to chain up dogs in New Mexico. So, the organization had the right to take the chained dogs away.

Angela Stell, founder and director of NMDOG, said that the rescuers were able to get someone on the property and explained the owners of the dogs what is wrong with the situation.

However, they discovered that the guardian of the dogs was in prison on unrelated charges. Since he wasn’t on the property, he wasn’t able to take care of these dogs.

Nobody knew how long these poor dogs had been left for. But, it was obvious that they were neglected and desperately needed some help.

When a vet examined Violet, he said she was sunburnt. Even though maggots eat away her flesh, there was a possibility that she can fully recover.

At first, Violet was scared whenever someone raised the hand for something. However, the volunteers were very patient with her, so she slowly started to trust the people around her. They even gave her a stuffed toy to play with.

Finally, Violet revealed her superpower. She can make anyone smile and can wiggle her ears in a different direction.

After a year, Violent was finally adopted by the perfect family who loves her a lot! Even though her story had a horrible start, it ends pretty well!
