An agile elephant climbs over a five-foot wall to steal mangoes from a safari lodge. The cute incident was caught on camera by the owner of the lodge.

The guests of Mfuwe Lodge in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia, left for their afternoon safari drive on Saturday when the elephant paid an unexpected visit.

General manager Ian Salisbury, 68, saw the elephant calculating how to pull his four huge legs over the stone wall without falling over.

Ian took a few hilarious pictures showing the giant animal hitching its legs over the wall. As the elephant was wandering around the camp, Andy Hogg, who owns the lodge, videoed the elephant’s unsuccessful hunt for fruit.

A family of elephants visits the site in southern Africa between October and mid-December. However, this unexpected visitor was too late. He was searching for mangoes that were out of season.

Ian, who is actually from Bacup, Lancs, said: ‘He just chose the most direct route and made himself right at home.”

The guests who were staying at the lodge were amazed at the idea of a climbing elephant. However, they were on a safari drive in the National Park at the time, so they missed him.

This is not the first time that an elephant comes to the lodge. However, elephants usually walk at the stoned pathway, instead of taking the direct route of the wall.

The giant creature must have been so hungry and wanted to get some mangoes for lunch. Sadly, there weren’t any mangoes.

Ian said: ‘He came and stretched over, had a look around, ate a bit of grass, then strangely turned around and came back the same way, which was quite amusing.”

However, this is an unusual behavior from an elephant. Although this was the easiest way, elephants don’t usually climb walls.
