Children have the most generous hearts and can teach adults so much about giving back and expecting nothing in return.

Meet Pavel Abramove, the 9-year-old boy who uses his natural gifts and talents to help animal shelters in Arzamas, Russia. He is one of the most talented artists. He paints pet portraits in exchange for supplies such as food and medicine that the shelter needs.

Pavel is a huge animal lover. When he lost his pet, he decided to do something for other animals. Last year, when he saw that many strays are suffering, he and his mother Ekateriana Bolshakova started the Kind Paintbrush Project.

The mother-son duo also manages a group on social media called “What a Little Volunteer is Capable Of.”  They want to teach others what just one child can do for the world. They don’t have any funds or any employees; they do all the work for the animals in need.

So, pet owners contact Pavel to paint custom pet portraits. He doesn’t do this for money, he does it in exchange for food, medicine, and other supplies for the shelter.  After he’s done with the portrait, he usually visits the pet on his painting in order to learn something more about the animal and how the owner got him.

Animal lovers around the world praise him for his work. He has taken orders from customers around the world, including Germany, and Spain.

The shelter is the only one in the city of Arzamas and takes care of 100 dogs. It has several volunteers, but Pavel is their youngest member. Take a look at some of his portraits.

The shelter received dog food, buckwheat, and bandages for the portrait of this cat named Chuck.

This portrait of Jesse the cat was exchanged for offal and buckwheat.

When Pavel grows up, he wants to become an architect and build animal shelters. We hope his dreams come true!
