More and more people who adopt pets often choose the little ones because they think they are sweeter than the older ones and, they want to see how they grow up together with their children.

This moment often overlooked older dogs who are locked up in shelters and live every day in the hope that no matter how old they are, there will be someone to adopt them.

It is also remarkably unfortunate that many of these puppies do not enjoy their last days to the end because they are euthanized by the shelters.
One family was familiar with what face the older dogs in the shelters and knew they needed to bring an older pup into their home.

Melissa Davis and her daughter Raven entered the BARCs animal shelter in Baltimore with the sole purpose of adopting an older puppy.

There, they met Kaylee, an 11-year-old American Staffordshire terrier, who was taken to an animal shelter and handed over by her owners because they could no longer afford to care for her.

Melissa’s daughter Raven told the Baltimore Sun that no one wants an old dog, and people think that more energetic puppies deserve to be adopted. She does not want older puppies to die in the shelter, so they want to adopt one of them.

The family took Kaylee despite early kidney disease, a torn ACL, and thyroid cancer. They decided to adopt her and make her last days great.

Along with building a Facebook page to document Kaylee’s shopping cart list, they joined the Foundation’s Holiday Wish Campaign and received a $ 10,000 grant to BARCS.

Melissa and Raven were inspired to be able to give back to the people who cared for Kaylee when the previous family could no longer.

The family began using the savings and vacation money to make sure they could take care of Kaylee. Melissa’s children even offered to cancel their trip to Disneyland if it meant that Kaylee was being cared for.

Unhappily, a few months after she was adopted in May 2017, Kaylee died.

Melissa shared an honest video of Kaylee’s adventures on Facebook, with the following caption that she cried while she was doing that and she cried while watching it. There was a big hole in her heart without the Kaylee nearby.
