Satisfied employees feel the emptiness when good leaders leave the company because they know that someone will hardly replace them.

After Jack Hanna served 42 years as director of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, he announced he would retire at the end of the year.

Hanna, who has become a well-known animal expert over the years, is credited with the success of Columbus Zoo, which he joined in 1978 as director of the zoo.

Before he got involved in the operation, the zoo was placing the animals in habitats similar to cages. He began working on replacing their premises and increasing the learning opportunities for visitors.

He said that as he approached his mid-70s, it was time to retire from the zoo and that together with many friends and partners, they have come a long way to make the world a better place for people and wildlife!

His place will be replaced by CEO Tom Stalf, and he and his large management team will continue to work at the zoo.

Although Hanna will step down from his role at Columbus Zoo, he will retain the title of the director as a beloved animal expert.

He said that his 42 years at the Columbus Zoo were the best in his life – he raised his children there and had the honor of revitalizing the zoo with the best team.

Hanna is an example of how all directors should behave and contribute for the good of all, he succeeded to make the Zoo a better place for everyone, and together with the team, he managed to build a wonderful place for animals and visitors.
