Dogs are the most popular pets in America. For 29 years in a row, the Labrador retriever has been America’s top dog. Surprisingly, for the first time, the Pembroke Welsh corgi, with its short legs, cute smile, and adorable butt, made it up in the top 10 of America’s most popular purebreds.

The American Kennel Club recently released its ranking list of the most popular dog breeds of 2019. The list is actually based on the 1.4 million puppies that were registered to the AKC last year. However, it only ranks the 193 breeds that the kennel club recognizes, meaning no mixed breeds such as Maltipoos or Goldendoodles.

Beside Labradors and corgis, the rest of the ranking list includes Golden Retrievers, German shepherds, German shorthaired pointers, Rottweilers, poodles, beagles, French bulldogs, and bulldogs. The least popular breed which is ranked last is the English foxhound.

According to Brandi Hunter, the AKC’s vice president of PR and communications, it’s not a surprise that Labradors are once again the most popular breed. She pointed out that these dogs can fit in every kind of lifestyle. They are great for families with kids, but also with those who live adventurous lives.
