An Instagram user described that this little black creature that seems too sad in terms of facial expressions (Breviceps Fruscus) was not sad – it was just a slightly resting sad face.
Breviceps fuscus, also known as the black rain frog or the common rain frog, is a sort of frog in the Brevicipitidae family. It is an endemic kind for South Africa, and the specific name fuscus refers to the dark color of this species.
They could be found at a maximum height of 3,300 meters, and unlike many other amphibians, they could survive without any open water. Rough creatures in the form of a bush are burrowers, which lived in small holes up to 6 inches deep. Despite their frowning appearance, these frogs were quite a careful bunch.
The black rain frog had a round body with short limbs and fingers. They grew to about 40–51 mm in snout-vent length. The skin has no warts, but there were noticeable granules or small tubercles and holes. The color was typically dark brown or almost black, with a slightly lighter valve and no pigmented patterns.
During the mating season, female frogs from the black rain secreted sticky matter from their backs. The substance helped men stay on top without falling during mating. After mating, the males stayed in the cages to keep the eggs. They made special sound piercings to mark their burrow as taken.
