Dogs are loyal and loving pets. But before getting a dog, you should think about fully committing to the new pet. This story a great example of that – an NFL player dumped his dog on the side of the road because he’s going to have a baby. So what?! Does the puppy deserve that? The answer is no!

Having a dog or any other pet can really brighten up your day. However, this doesn’t apply to Rakeem Nunez-Roches, a football defensive end who plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The NFL player abandoned his dog on the side of a busy Florida road. As a result, his team is launching an investigation following the incident.

Nunez-Roches is known to breed Pit Bull breed dogs. However, the dog he abandoned was a Cane Corso breed. The poor dog was discovered sitting alone on the road for 36 hours – exhausted and starving.

Few people tried to coax the terrified dog into their vehicles but ultimately were not successful.

Marianna Montague, a volunteer with Cane Corso Rescue, finally managed to get the dog off the road and bring Jitterbug to the Hillsborough County Animal Services. They scanned her chip and they found out that she was Nunez-Roches’ dog. Animal services contacted him and he said he would pick her up, but he never showed up.

Montague said she was surprised that football is more important for Nunez-Roches than his dog.

It was clear that the football player didn’t want to pick her up. According to reports, his wife made him give up their dog because they were expecting a baby.

Fortunately, Jitterbug got her happy ending.  Andrea Johnson and her husband Keith decided to adopt her. The couple has another Cane Corso, Addi, as well as a big home and garden for both dogs to play around in together.

Thankfully, there are still good people in the world!
