When three nuns from Our Lady of Christian Doctrine in Nyack, New York lost their dog, they were devastated. However, they didn’t let their sadness stop them from getting another dog.

On Sunday, the trio decided to visit a local shelter in Pomona with one goal – to adopt the least wanted dog. When they walked into Hi Tor Animal Care Center, they knew they will bring home a dog that nobody else wants.

The nuns met Remy a 9-year-old pit bull who had been at the shelter for a few months. Although her adoption prospects weren’t promising, the women immediately fell in love with her.

When Sister Veronica Medez talked to news media outlets, she admitted she wanted to get a dog that faces euthanization. Remy was the perfect animal for the nuns because nobody else wanted to adopt her. Also, other potential adopters were not interested in Remy mostly because of her age.

When they brought Remy into her new home, she instantly brightened the home with her adorable personality. Sister Virginia Johnson said they were seniors and Remy was also a senior who is friendly and gentle.

Remy has been finally adopted. She is now living a happy with the three nuns. They didn’t have to pay for adoption bills because Hi Tor volunteers were so moved by their actions, so the adoption process was free of charge.

We need more people like these nuns. They showed us what age doesn’t matter when it comes to dogs or even other animals.

Usually, when people want to adopt a dog, they go straight to puppies or younger dogs and avoid the seniors. However, even senior dogs deserve a chance to live a happy life. Don’t you agree?

Next time you visit a shelter, please be considerate and don’t avoid senior animals.
