A group of people was exploring Kenya when they spotted 5 cheetahs crossing a turbulent river. Fortunately, two photographers captured the rare sight on camera. Although the river was flooded, the cheetah didn’t seem to care.
Arnfin Johansen and Buddhilini De Soyza were at the right place the right time to capture unique photos of the cheetahs swimming across the flooded Talek River in the Masai Mara Reserve.
When one of the cheetahs entered the river, people were stunned. Soon, two other cheetahs followed. While everyone was carefully watching the scene and expecting more swimmers to jump in the river, Johansen and De Soyza took the opportunity to capture the beautiful moment on camera.
Johansen said that he was following the family of cheetahs for a long period. He is familiar with their routine, he knows that they hunt on the Talek River. The cheetahs usually walk on stones in order to cross the river. But, it’s been raining for a while, so the river was flooded.

The cheetahs were trying to figure out how to cross the river. However, the strong current and the Nile Crocodiles don’t make it an easy task.
A popular cheetah from the area was drowned or killed by the crocodiles in the river when she was swimming in the river. According to Johansen, the same could have happened with these five cheetahs.
Before jumping into the river, they were hesitating for a while. When they jumped the river, there were no crocodiles in the area.
Johansen said the cheetahs were swimming so fast. It’s not surprising that they didn’t like swimming, most cats don’t like water.
Fortunately, all five cheetahs managed to get to the other side alive. Before the leader cheetah shook his fur, he turned back and hissed at the river.
There are 800 to 1,200 adults in Kenya, making it the main stronghold with the largest population of cheetahs. The best way to see a cheetah is to go on a safari.
