Meet Monique, an adorable domestic cat who loves hanging out with her human friends. Her fur coat is so silky, her paws are so cute. Since she loves showing affection you might think that people would love to adopt her.
The 2-year-old cat has now spent 115 days at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. Sadly, people are not interested in adopting this adorable cat.
When the staff at the animal shelter Battersea staff tried to organize a birthday party for Monique, they were disappointed because nobody showed up.
Her birthday celebration was on the same day as Valentine’s Day. Nobody should ever feel unloved on the day when love is celebrated. Monique’s birthday party completely failed and the staff was feeling down.

Although the shelter’s staff decorated Monique’s pen for her birthday and shared the news of the celebration online, nobody showed up to wish her a happy birthday. The poor cat las playing alone, without a potential adoption.
The cat suffers from Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), a virus that weakens her immune system. This might be the main reason why people aren’t interested in adopting her.
Most cats with FIV can live long and healthy lives. However, a cat with FIV should not come into contact with other cats because this virus can be easily transmitted to other cats. Fortunately, the virus can’t be transmitted to humans.
Chrissie Grindrod, Battersea’s Cattery Team Leader, said that not so healthy cats are always overlooked which is sad. Monique enjoys a human’s company and loves having her chin rubbed. Although her birthday already passed, you can always adopt her and give her a lovely new home.

The staff at the animal shelter is more than happy to inform and help potential adopters how to handle a cat with FIV. The most important thing to do is to cat-proof the yard or garden so the cat wouldn’t come in contact with other cats.
It’s always heartbreaking to see a pet that needs a home, especially when they are loving and cuddly companions.
