Every animal lover, including myself, would love to bring home every stray we find. And in a perfect world, every animal would have a loving home and get all the love it deserves. Sadly, our world is far from perfect, so there are thousands of strays wondering the streets. Some of them get picked up and placed in a shelter, and sometimes it’s a way better alternative than being out in the world fighting for survival. However, there are times when the shelter isn’t able to care for the animals that cannot find their forever home.

Such is the story of Kala and Keira. These two beautiful dogs have spent a part of their lives at the Atlanta-based Angels Among Us Pet Rescue. The people from the shelter have desperately tried to find them homes, but for a long time it was to no avail. Not having the luck of their friends who managed to get adopted, Kiera was set for euthanasia.

The employees of the shelter couldn’t bear the thought of putting down one of these beautiful creatures. That’s why they tried one last time to publish a photo of the two of them. But, this photo was unlike any other they have put until then! In their last photo, you can see Kala and Keira hugging each other and looking at the lenses with the whole sadness in this world, as if they know what is about to happen.

The people from the shelter posted the photo on Facebook with the following caption:

“I’m Kala. This is Keira. We’re so scared in here. The people working in the shelters see how scared we are but just told each other that today is our deadline. If no one saves us, someone will take her away from me. I’ll see her as she goes down the hallway. She won’t come back and I’ll cry. They’ll come for me next, and I won’t be as brave”

And the photo was a success! The heartbreaking post went viral in a matter of minutes and managed to reach out to Kala’s and Keira’s rescuer!

“There are no words to tell you how happy we are that these two best friends are safe and together!” the shelter staff said.

The dogs live their best lives in their forever home, and everyone that got to know about them couldn’t be more happier!
