When the U.S. military was based in Iraq, they met a stray dog and named him Ollie. The poor dog couldn’t defend himself so the soldiers decided to take him in the base and provide him food and shelter.

Everyone loved their four-legged furry friend, but one of the soldiers grew really fond of the dog. Ken Wyrsch really loved Ollie because it brought him so much happiness. The two of them became inseparable. According to Wyrsch, the dog was there when the soldiers left for their missions and he was there when they returned.

However, the military base in Iraq had to be shut down and the soldiers had to get back to their home country. Sadly, this meant that they have to leave the dog behind.  Ollie got really used to being around people, so returning to the streets would mean to live an uncertain life, struggling to find any food or water.

Since Wyrsch got really fond of the dog, he was really worried about Ollie. Instead of sitting and doing nothing, he was determined to do everything he can to take the dog home with him. Although this sounded like a good idea, it was really hard to turn it into reality.

When the SPCA International heard about Wyrsch and Ollie, they decided to step in. Fortunately, they gathered generous donations that helped the dog to go into his new forever home on the other side of the planet.

The duo was a part for a month. Fortunately, they reunited in California where the permanent home of soldier Wyrsch is located.

When they saw each other again, it was the best thing ever. Now, the once-stray dog has a new loving home. He got a second chance to start his life over thanks to his friend who didn’t want to leave him behind.
