Before the sanctuary rescued Dillan, he lived in a roadside zoo in Pennsylvania. He lived in a small concrete pen and didn’t have enough space to move around. As a result, he gained a lot of weight, which took a toll on his health.
According to Kent Drotar, the PR director at the sanctuary, Dillan was 100 pounds overweight and made it hard for him to walk. His belly even touched the ground while he was walking.

However, Dillan’s rescuers decided to help lose weight. He ate only fruit and vegetables. They also tried to make him exercise, but he wasn’t really happy about these new options.

The overweight bear didn’t want to exercise. Instead, he wanted to relax in his new space and nap freely for the first time. He loves his new home better than his old home which was located near a shooting range.

The bear is more than happy right now. Kent said that Dillan really enjoys living a life of luxury. He will get even a bigger home soon.

However, he won’t be living there alone, he will share the habitat with another rescued bear named Lily. His rescuers are hoping that the new home will help him lose weight and improve his health.

We are hoping that Lily and Dillan will become friends, and Dillan will start losing the weight.
