Getting a dog means bringing happiness into your life. Even though there are many joys of having a dog, there is one sad thing about it: dog’s life expectancy is shorter than human life expectancy. This means that even you can be a part of your dog’s entire life, but not the opposite.
Dogs usually live around 12 to 14 years on average. But, some dogs are lucky enough to live longer than others. For instance, this golden retriever named August has just celebrated his 20th birthday!
Also, she is the oldest golden retriever in history, which makes the entire thing even more incredible!
August is also known as Augie. She was born on April 24, 2000. At first, her life was rough until she found her forever home at the age of 14 when Jennifer and Steve Hetterscheidt from Oakland, Tennessee decided to adopt her.

Augie was already above her average life expectancy. However, the Hetterscheidts are a family that loves to take in senior dogs and make their final years more special and enjoyable.
However, the couple wasn’t aware that this golden retriever would far exceed anyone’s expectations.
Augie isn’t the only golden retriever who lives with the Hetterscheidts. They also have 3 other dogs of the same breed. According to the family, even though the dog is old and has some kidney issues, she is very healthy and loves to go on her daily walks.
This April, Augie celebrated her historic 20th birthday. She spent her special day at home with her owners, dog siblings, and a carrot cake.
Even Augie didn’t know that by turning 20 she would become the oldest golden retriever in history! She is actually doubling the normal life expectancy of a golden retriever. This dog is such an inspiration!
We congratulate Augie for her record-setting achievement!
