An elderly beagle that was abandoned in LeRay at the beginning of the month was recently tested positive for Lyme disease. The vet also confirmed that she has some problems with her ears.

However, Clover J. Forsythe, the chairwoman of Friends 4 Pounds Paws Inc., a  nonprofit breed rescue for cats and dogs, strongly believes that Jessie will find a new home in a week!

The 8-year-old beagle made it to the rescue center after spending 5 days at Rossie-Gouverneur Area Dog Pound, which has a contract with LeRay. The dog was at Northland Veterinary Clinic in Gouverneur for several days.

On June 4, when Kelly Flanagan Hall looked out her window, she saw the poor beagle being pushed out of a truck. She noticed that the dog was traveling toward Fort Drum, so she immediately went to the rescue to save the poor animal and called State Police. Fortunately, Jessie was taken to the dog pound.

Then, the beagle was taken to the vet, who found out that Jessie had an identification chip. This allowed her rescuers to find out her name and her owner. Then, they gave the information to the State Police.

However, Forsythe believes that the chip might not show the last person who had the dog, and in Jessie’s case, who abandoned her. People often re-home dogs, but forget to change the chip.

In order to find the person who dropped Jessie off, it would be looking for a needle in a haystack. Forsythe thinks that the beagle might have been given away several times over the years. However, she’s such a good dog, so she’s really surprised why anyone would do that.

The current owner of Jessie is the rescue center.

The beagle had to undergo surgery because she has a problem in her ears. There are small growths in both organs.

After her surgery, Jessie will go into her new home. Although her story didn’t have a great start, she will be finally happy with her new owner in her new home!
