Pet owners sometimes give up on their animals and abandon them to a shelter. Some of the main reasons for pet abandonment are lack of finance or moving to a new home. However, it’s really infuriating when people abandon their pets to make room for a “better” pet.
Recently, one family dumped their dog at a local shelter. Like abandoning their furry companion wasn’t enough, they even returned to the same shelter to adopt a different dog while their former dog was watching helplessly.
Zuzu the German shepherd was at the age of 2 when her owners decided to give her up to the Downey Animal Care Center in Los Angeles. The dog became depressed after her father died, so that was the reason for her abandonment. When she was left at the shelter, that didn’t really help her.

One of the volunteers at the shelter noticed that Zuzu is a friendly dog, but she was feeling very sad and confused. After a few days of misery, her owners returned to the shelter. When the dog recognized them, she got so excited and ran to the fence to greet them.
The previous owners petted her through the gate. Zuzu thought that they returned to the shelter to bring her home, but they didn’t come back for that.
In fact, the family to adopt a different dog. The shelter workers were shocked. Instead of helping Zuzu with her depression, the family ditched her and decided to adopt a “better” dog.
Once this story went viral, people were sad and furious at the same time. The good news is that many people wanted to adopt Zuzu. However, the dog was staying at the Pet Adoption Fund, a no-kill shelter, and the staff had to look through the numerous adoption applications and find a forever home for this poor dog.
Eventually, Russ and Judith Gallo adopted Zuzu. After one of their dogs died, they wanted to take in a new one. When they read Zuzu’s story, they knew she was perfect for them!
After her previous family abandoned her, Zuzu now has a new loving family that will never leave her!
