A father and son from New Brunswick brought a young moose to safety after the poor animal got trapped in deep mud.
In an interview with CTV News, Shawn Matheson said that he saw the stuck animal while he was walking with his girlfriend near St. Stephen, N.B last week. He believes that the poor animal was trapped in the mud for a few days.
Matheson said that when he heard the moose, she got scared. He’s assuming that the animal got stuck when she went for the water because of the hot weather.
He tried to dig in the mud, but his attempt was unsuccessful. He was disappointed and went home, but returned to the area with his father.

The next day, Shawn and Richard Matheson pulled the moose out of the thick mud with an electric winch. They think that the poor animal was trapped in the mud for 3 or 4 days. Since she didn’t have any access to water, she was very dehydrated and weak.
Richard remembered that he had a plastic container in his vehicle. He took it. filled it with water and gave it to the moose who immediately started drinking. He gave her around 12 to 14 gallons of water.
Because of the hot summer weather, the father and son duo kept her covered with cool mud and gave her something to eat.
After drinking water and eating some food, the moose got her strength back and the father and son decided it to leave her in peace.
On Friday, they went back to check the area and didn’t find the moose.
Richard, the father, said he and his son spent a day in the area, but ended up on an adventure. He noted that this a once in a lifetime experience.
