Although it might seem weird to some of you, it’s very possible to find and buy live sea turtles from food markets in some parts of the world. It surprised Arron Culling and Mark, his co-worker when this is what they saw – two live sea turtles being sold in Papua New Guinea at a local food market.

Most of the sea turtles are considered endangered and it’s illegal to fish them. But, that’s not the case in some areas of the world. There, turtles are being harvested for their meat and shells. When the two friends realized that these lovely turtles were going to be bought for food, they decided to be one step ahead of the other buyers. They bought the turtles for $50, drove 5km to the shore, and set them free in the ocean. And this is not the first time they did this. They’ve already rescued about 10 of these.
