Meet Captain, the cute little puppy, that recently the Washington Capitals decided to share it on Twitter. After gaining 48,000 followers and many RMNB stories, the adorable Labrador was voted as the NHL’s Best Team Dog in the 2020 Fan Choice Awards.

The male yellow Labrador had 22 percent more of the votes and defeated 9 other dogs, including NY Islanders’ Labrador named Tori and Montreal’s Saint-Pierre Labernese puppy named Flambo.

The Capitals noted that Captain was born on July 22. He made his debut with the team on a Red Carpet event when he was just 10 weeks old. Alex Ovechkin, the hockey winger and team captain, was holding Captain in his arms when he walked into Capital One Arena.

Ever since the puppy was introduced to the public, he stole the hearts of numerous fans while interacting with the team players. Captain also made it into the team’s dog annual calendar.

In the next 14 to 16 months, Captain will receive some basic training and socialization before he can return to Smithtown, NY to start his formal service dog training.

Wondering how Captain ended up with the Capitals? The team adopted the cute puppy through America’s VetDogs, a non-profit organization located in New York. Apart from having dogs for adoption, the organization also has service dogs ad provides them to veterans and people with disabilities.

Captain’s career is on the rise! He already won this season Sports Dog of the Year and received a 14/10 rating from WeRateDogs.
