A tiny kitten was recently rescued by Viks Rescue. He is the latest addition to the rescue. A woman riding a bike found the 12-day-old kitten at the bottom of a cliff on Napier Hill on April 19.

Vicky McKay is the owner of Viks Rescue. The police escorted the kitty from Napier to Flaxmer where the owner lives.

McKay confirmed that the kitten, which is the same size as a human hand, has been fed and flea treated. She also said that the kitten now sleeps in a nice warm bed.

However, the kitten isn’t ready for adoption yet. It may take at least 2 months before she’s ready. Also, she has to gain more weight before McKay takes her to the vet for desexing.

This isn’t the first time McKay has rescued an animal. She’s been rescuing animals for over 12 years. At first,  she started with dogs, but she also saved cats and kittens.

After McKay rescues the cats, she desexes and deworms them. The vet bills usually vary between $185 and $200. However, she doesn’t pay for them herself. In fact, she relies entirely on donations.

The rescued cats live with her in Flaxmere, until they are prepared to get adopted. She currently takes care of 14 cats.

The main sponsor for Viks Rescue is Mars NZ and McKay is so thankful for them. They help her with food and vet services.

McKay has been a single parent for 16 years. She has two kids who are very helpful with her project. Currently, there are 9 kittens available for adoption.

Although sometimes it’s exhausting and expensive, McKay will continue to rescue cats and kittens because she has a thirst to help animals.
