There are many dogs in animal shelters who are waiting to find forever homes. While some of them get adopted really fast, it’s harder for others who wait weeks, months, even years. That was the case with Ginger, a 9-year-old Labrador retriever mix.

Ginger is currently living at the Dogwood Animal Shelter in Lake of the Ozarks. She has been waiting for over 7 years to get adopted.

Since she’s been waiting for so long to get adopted, the staff at the shelter decided to share a picture of Ginger on the shelter’s Facebook page. There was also a sign in the picture informing the public that Ginger has been waiting for 7 years, 9 months, 2 weeks, 2 days at the shelter. She just needs a second chance at life!

Before Ginger came into the shelter, she was living with an abusive owner. Fortunately, those days are now behind her. As a result of the abuse, she had some behavioral and emotional issues and made her unadoptable for a while. She had to go through training before someone could take her home.

Ever since her picture was posted, Ginger gained popularity and received outpouring support. The picture was liked over 9,700 likes and was shared more than 47,000 times.

Ginger can’t find a home for a long time because she needs to be the only pet in the family without small children. However, her days at the shelter are coming to their end. Thanks to her picture posted online, many people offered to adopt her.

More than 50 people from the United States and Canada are willing to adopt Ginger. Now, the shelter is carefully reviewing each application and narrowing it down so they can find the best home for Ginger.

We are hoping that Ginger’s story will help other shelter animals to get adopted in no time. Instead of buying a pet, adopt it!
