Unfortunately, there are many pet owners who abandon their pets and leave them on the streets without any food and water.
Recently, a woman was going to work when she noticed something on the road ahead. Malissa Sergent Lewis was already running late to the elementary school in Kentucky where she works. So, she decided to take a shortcut. Little did she know that she would save an innocent life.
But, she didn’t expect to find a trash bag on the road. Instead of walking away, Malissa decided to get closer to the bag. The closer she got, she noticed that the trash bag was moving and that was something alive in it. She knew that she had to get whatever it was out.
Malissa took her phone out and took a video of the moving trash bag. It’s really devastating that someone left an innocent animal in the bag to suffocate and die.

Although the woman didn’t know what kind of an animal was inside, she still wanted to help. Then, she got out of the car and decided to take a peek in the bag. When she opened the bag, she saw a puppy inside! The dog started wagging his tail even before the bag was opened.
Malissa rushed the puppy to the vet to confirm that it was okay and didn’t suffer any injuries. Fortunately, the dog was healthy. But, the puppy had a collar on, meaning that it used to be someone’s pet.
Officials shared the story about the puppy, hoping that someone might have any information about the owner. Maybe the puppy was stolen and placed in the trash bag. However, officials want to charge the person behind this with animal cruelty.
Malissa fell in love with the puppy and even decided to adopt him because she couldn’t imagine some other person adopting him. Her son decided to name him Hefty.
Now, Hefty has a new home and a loving family!
